Dousa was a Dutch statesman, historian, poet, and philologist. He was born in Noordwyck, in the province of Holland, and played an important role in the independence of the Netherlands. Interally, pages are astonishingly bright and clear. A very handsome copy. Puteanus was a humanist, philologist and encyclopedist. He taught at the Collegium Trilingue at the University of Leuven and wrote nearly a hundred works. This book, published posthumously, contains Puteanus' letters in seven books in one volume as well as a short biography. Provenance: From a private collection by descent to the vendor.

Ex-library stamps to pre-title and title pages (plus some additional pages), Croydon Public Libraries, dated 1943. Previous owner inscription to front flyleaf "Thomas Myddelton, his booke". A handsome and well-preserved copy. This significant work by 17th century French philosopher Pierre Gassendi details his system of logic and reconstruction of Epicurean philosophy, blending empiricism with ancient atomism to offer a more comprehensive worldview. This second British edition was a result of the high demand of the first edition, printed in 1660 by Redmayne's father-in-law, Roger Daniel. Historiated initials and typographical ornaments throughout; contemporary calf, raised gilt lettering to spine (chipped), raised bands, red speckled edges. This foundational work by William Beveridge presents a critical edition of the Apostolic Canons, juxtaposing the original Greek with a Latin translation. Beveridge aimed to vindicate and illuminate the canonical discipline of the early Church, providing an essential resource for theologians and scholars of ecclesiastical law. The work’s folio format, elegant typography, and scholarly apparatus make it a remarkable example of 17th-century Anglican scholarship. The distinguished provenance, including the armorial bookplate of George Stanhope, Dean of Canterbury, adds historical and bibliographical interest. A highly attractive piece for collectors of ecclesiastical and early English printed books. 17th CENTURY BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER WITH CONTEMPORARY ANNOTATIONS. The Book of Common Prayer. London: Printed by Charles Bill, Henry Hills, and Thomas Newcomb, Printers to the King most Excellent Majesty, 1686. Bound in brown morocco with raised bands and border tooling. Gilt edges, mostly faded. Marbled endpapers. Front cover loose, rear cover and several rear leaves detatched. A typical example of a late 17th century book of common prayer. What makes this copy unique is the large number of annotations made to the front flyleaves and rear blanks in a neat, contemporary hand. It traces a family genealogy from the first owner, Margaret Beale in 1710 through her descendents, Robert Aylmer and wife Catherine, to the last entry dated 1878. A lovely example of a religious text being passed through generations of family.

This edition contains reprinted court documents from the Thunderball trial, which the Trust contested was copyright infringement. This is a rare copy, signed by both the author and Ms Whittingham, whose family archive was instrumental in the book being written.

A complete set of 13 episode scripts for the fifth series of the BBC radio drama Riders of the Range, centred on the story of Jesse James. Each episode includes its own title page and full cast list.
